Sell yourself while going to school

Your campus theatre dept and local television or radio stations seem like the most likely place to start if you are interested in being in front of the camera or presenting a public image. While you are looking for work, do not forget to look closer to home.  Your classmates, on campus acquaintances, professors etc, might have an interest in getting information about their work on a video or on youtube as an instructional video. Offer your services to present their work in a professional or memorable way to help increase interest for them. You could offer to help present an experiment, thesis, exhibit- get creative and put your information in front of your friends so you can spark their interest. Please feel free to submit your ideas and videos.  Show us how they are working for you.

Great for Monologues which are not easy to find

10 Elements of Great Audition Monologues - Part II August 6, 2011, Gabriel Davis - The 10 Elements were created as a way to boil down lessons in playwriting learned over the course of several years -- and several volumes of books on the subject -- into a short essential list. I taught these 10 Elements to students as part of the nationally recognized Joanne Woodward Apprentice Program at the Westport Country Playhouse. The material they wrote using these Elements was consistently surprising, entertaining, and enjoyable. I owe a great deal to my mentors playwright Milan Stitt and director/novelist Kathleen George in helping to shape my thinking on these elements. I am pleased to pass these on to you and I hope you, in turn, will pass them on.

A Day in the Life of an Actor

It is extremely hot outside in many locations and the thought of going to another casting call or audition is a bit tiring. You have to now decide if this is really a path you want to take for yourself, either part-time or full-time. What is your level of commitment? Are you making it to your classes each week?  Are you practicing at home for the skills that will get you through an audition or to the next level if you succeed past the audition?  How prepared are you? Are your photos up to date? How about your resume? What can you say about yourself?  What opportunities have you taken for yourself that could keep you up to date and in practice? There are lots of opportunities available as either an assistant, second chair or position, or even volunteer opportunities. The business does cost money as well unless you are really lucky and there are a few really lucky people. The cost of understanding the business is not free and it is competitive. Nobody wants to give...

Auditions & Casting Notices

There are several new posts for casting across the country on my twitter feed @SINRA_0007 .  It is important to remember the basics when going to any audition.  Practice your slate, practice your monologue, loosen your voice up, and get into character. Remember just one person is going to get this job and if you want it to be you, make it you. Enjoy yourself and express yourself, that is who you are really selling. Do not let other get you nervous or upset at the audition.  People love to cause distractions, get you rattled or try to frustrate you so that you are now "out of character". Bring an up to date headshot with recent work or activity.  Let them know that you are staying involved or keeping busy.
